Spring Cleaning

Yesterday we practiced using the photo-studio we have at uni. This was the outcome. I also managed to clean up my tumblr account which was something that simply had to be done. From now on I will only post pictures that I have taken and it will serve as a form of online portfolio. Here it is : http://lauralakeh.tumblr.com/

Case and Key Clothing Co.

image from Case and Key's Facebook page.
My friend M. launched his own apparel brand today. It's called Case and Key. I had the honour of being his very first customer! His t-shirts are custom made and only 10 pounds!

M. takes a white t-shirt and customizes it by tie-dying and hand printing his logo onto it, using a print screen and sewing the folded sleeves together.

He then sews his label onto the bottom.

And even the inside of his t-shirts have a personally printed label.

And if all this isn't enough a handwritten tag with washing instructions and a thank you note are attached.

I am very pleased with my new shirt and have never owned an item of clothing this personal.

 Get your own here.

P.S As stated on the website I would advise you to get them a size larger than you normally would.

KlangKunst

Whenever I am asked who my favourite music artist is, I always struggle to answer because of the variety of music out there. But when it comes to EDM I have made a definite decision: KlangKuenstler.
Klangkuenstler is German and means sound artist, which is a name that fits perfectly for the young producer.
His music falls mainly under the genre of tech- and deep-house, yet has an individual sound to it.
If you are looking for new music to listen to I recommend having a listen on his soundcloud.

Le Patinoire au Grand Palais

I recently got back from Paris. We did a lot of fun stuff such as shopping, going on walks, sight seeing and (my favourite) ice-skating at Le Grand Palais
I have always wanted to see le Grand Palais simply for its spectacular architecture and what better way to experience this grand place than on ice?
It was a great way to experience some culture and a splendid alternative to a museum.
However the wait outside was very long and I recommend reserving tickets online . Here  is some more information about it.
It is open from the 13th of December to 6th of January so hurry before you miss your chance to experience le patinoire au Grand Palais.

Once I have all my Paris photos gathered on my computer I will make more posts about my week in the city of romance.

Christmas love and wishes

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope you all have been eating loads of yummy food, got lots of presents and  most importantly: spent quality time with your loved ones.

Here is my favorite christmas movie.

modern traditions

Should anyone reading this ever be visiting Frankfurt and not know where to go for a fun night here is one suggestion: Shooters
It is in Frankfurt's famous (or perhaps notorious is the better word) Alt-Sachsenhausen, a traditional style bar-street with a variety of restaurants and bars, non of which are too expensive.
This is a shot bar that that has just under 200 different shots on offer at 2euro each, which is affordable.
Long drinks and cocktails are not too pricey either.

Whenever we go, we play a game where the person to your left orders your shot and you order the person to your right's shot.
However last time we changed it up a bit since I volunteered as designated driver and could not participate, I was allowed to pick the shots for everyone at the table!

Our friend K (middle) did not appear to enjoy the shot I picked for her too much... Sorry, not sorry.

P.S If you have a friend who is "single-and-ready-to-mingle" I advise to get them the single shot. He/she will then be handcuffed to another single of the opposite sex and they will each be given a glass of champagne to drink while they have a lovely chat. It's always a laugh. Who knows maybe your friend will find his/her true love.
And if you have someone sitting next to you that you don't like my recommendation would be the Monica Lewinski shot. I will not go into detail on this one as it is far to inappropriate to tarnish the innocent contents of my blog with it, you'll just have to trust me on this one.

And here is a catchy tune to get you into the mood for a night out (the video is also worth watching)

creativity is key

Here is some evidence that it is indeed very possible to have a proper christmas meal (English style) without an oven!

All we had to do was buy a precooked chicken from Tesco and simply reheat it in our microwave.
The baked potatoes and veg we boiled and then put them in the microwave at oven setting to make them nice and crisp (admittedly it took about 5 times as long as it would have in the oven, but the wait just made it taste all the better). We defrosted and boiled some frozen peas and broccoli, made some nice gravy and stuffing from a pack and defrosted yorkshire puddings.
And this is the result!

Okay, it was not as good as at home but for some amateur student cooks it was quite the feast.
